Live Radio Interview Tips

January 27th, 2010

First of all – I want to state that I am definitely not an expert on radio interviews. I have on the other hand done a live television interview, a live radio interview and a recorded radio interview so what I do have is experience.

I find that when you become an entrepreneur, you become a Jack of all trades and therefore have to learn a lot of skills through being thrown into the deep end. I think this is a great way to learn as you don’t have the option to shy away from something if you are not comfortable with it. You have to roll up your sleeves and face whatever challenge is presented to you. No one is there to hold your hand so you have to be confident in your own judgement. Of course you run the risk of making mistakes but this is the ultimate lesson. If you make a mistake, you can be damn sure that you will never make it again!

Back to doing a radio interview…the main piece of advice that I can give to anyone getting ready to do an interview is to mentally prepare a list of the most important things that you absolutely NEED to get across during the interview. This is important as you only have a limited amount of time so you need to be creative with your responses to certain questions – always try and steer the conversation to what you want to talk about and plug plug plug! Also try and be natural and the golden rule is to be yourself of course.

Here is a radio interview that I did a few months ago for The ElevEase Lovely Legs Competition. In this interview, I was lucky as the presenters were easy to talk to and very friendly.

Word of Mouth Campaign - a Raging Success!

November 18th, 2009

The troops have been rallied, the tongues have been wagging and by George we have stumbled upon a great route to market. Basically, we have been recruiting people to talk to their friends, family and colleagues about ElevEase - The Shower Step. This marketing initiative is proving to be a very effective way of getting our product out to our target market for Christmas.

I have always been a fan of chatting but this brings it to a new level! Basically we are giving €5 to our agents for every ElevEase Shower Step sold as a result of chatting to friends, family and colleagues. I think this job could even be referred to as a piece of cake! mmm…cake

In order to grow this initiative, we are still recruiting more tongues to wag. We have agents in Spain, Luxembourg, England and Ireland of course. We are trying to take this word of mouth around the world so if anyone is interested in making some cash for Christmas, wherever you are, contact us on info@elevease.com.

We will send you some brochures with a blank space for the agent’s name and contact details. These brochures then become your partner in sales along with the wagging of the tongue! They can also be used for a mail drop if you really want to increase your volume of fivers.

Contact us soon as it is coming up to Christmas and you could be out there solving some Christmas shopping crises with the power of chat and your friendly brochures. Then all you have to do is figure out how you are going to spend your earnings this Christmas. If you have more naughty than nice people on your Christmas list, use the surplus to invest wisely…treat yourself!:)

Make Anything up to €500 for Chatting about ElevEase!

October 28th, 2009

We have begun a new strategy where we are selling ElevEase throughout Ireland by simply asking people to chat to their friends, family and work colleagues. We are not claiming to have re-invented the wheel here but Dave; our M.D has come up with a clever way of selling ElevEase for the Christmas market as it is great stocking filler or indeed a great present for only €19.99. Let’s face it we have all received our fair share of bubble bath and salt sets that we never use. This Christmas, give an ElevEase - it is practical and everyone who has one can’t stop raving about it.

What we have learned so far is that when you engage in conversation about ElevEase – it sells. Take the Late Late Show for example, sales increased dramatically after the show as people were educated about this fantastically nifty product that makes DIY beauty care a hell of a lot easier!

We have simply taken that formula and are now rolling it out nationwide. Basically, we provide you with some samples of ElevEase and some brochures. You then go and speak to all your friends, family and work colleagues about ElevEase. For every ElevEase that you sell, you get €5 so simply put if you sell 100 units you will get €500. What could one do with €500? Well, I would say that Christmas pressies would be done and dusted with some spare change to maybe indulge in some Christmas spirits over the season!:)

If you are interested or can think of anyone that might need a few extra quid coming up to Christmas - call Dave on 087 066 5654 or e-mail us on info@elevease.com. What do you have to lose???!

UK TV Launch Here We Come!

October 22nd, 2009

I am delighted to announce that we have finally got approval for our commercial to be aired in the UK.

We are going live on Wednesday on following channels; Living 1, Really and Home.

This has been an extremely drawn out process which brings be back to one of my first points that I made in a previous blog, nothing in business happens fast enough! This is frustrating but worth it when you get there in the end. Maybe I just need to work on my patience as opposed to the world of business changing…hmm I think I’ll stick to being impatient and efficient!

Exciting times ahead…I will fill you in on how we get on, fingers crossed the UK launch will go well.

I will post the commercial after it airs in case I break any other rules - as I sit here with my belt and braces firmly attached!

The O2 Women Mean Business Awards

October 4th, 2009

The O2 Women Mean Business Awards was a great day out altogether. We kicked off the event with a lovely pink bag full of goodies which Dave, our Managing Director was absolutely ecstatic about!

Sarah Newman from The Irish Dragon’s Den started proceedings with her story about how she made her millions from scratch. She was very down to earth and honest and told us about how she struggled with cash flow etc. and basically had to jump over all the hurdles that all entrepreneurs do from small, medium to large businesses. It is always refreshing to hear that the really successful ones were once where we are now and pulled through it against the odds.

Michael Doherty then took over the reins and spoke about how he heals people with problems from back pain to depression through using positive energy. To be honest I was a bit sceptical which is a habit that I’m trying to drop as it is generally about being a bit negative. He told an interesting anecdote about when he started his business, he printed off a blank cheque, wrote a seven figure sum on it and hung it on the wall.

The logic behind this is that you have to visualise something and believe that you can do it to achieve it. A few months later he got a call from Michael Flatley to help him when he was ill. He was so amazed at how he heeled him that he called a press conference and since then Michael Doherty has been very successful. The lesson there is that you need to be positive and believe that you can achieve things.

We then did a bit of networking and settled into a lovely 4 course lunch and an a glass of wine which then brought us to the awards ceremony. There were four categories. I was in the “Big WMBig Idea Award”. It was very Oscar like as an image of the four nominees flashed up as our names were called out. Drumroll and the winner is…not me, it wasn’t my time to shine but fair play to Lynne Whelan from Whitelite Gael Renewables who took the award home.

Sahar Hashemi rounded the event off with her story of how she moved from the comfort zone of being a solicitor to setting up a chain of coffee stores with her brother, Bobby. She basically spotted a gap in the UK market for the US coffee experience of triple double decker coffees or whatever they are called these days! They started off with one shop and sold the business with a chain of 1,000 Coffee Republic shops. She has also written a book and launched a new product, Skinny Candy (sugar free sweets).

I found her really inspirational as she started off her speech by stating how papers love to say that businesses are an over night success but that it took her 15 years to build it up to a stage where they could sell it on for millions. Again it takes the pressure off when you hear really successful entrepreneurs coming out with some home truths as entrepreneurship is a constant battle of insecurity if you don’t sell a million units a week!

The general vibe throughout the event was that we need to be more positive and pull together to move out of this “R” word. It was a great day out and a brilliant networking opportunity as I made a few good contacts. Just off to print myself off a blank cheque so I can right down 7 digits on it – it’s worth a shot!:)
